From Rembrandt to Monet and Van Gogh-Masterpieces from the Hammer Museum

September 11 (Sat) – December 12 (Sun), 2027

The Hammer Museum opened in Los Angeles, California in 1990. This exhibition marks the first opportunity since its opening to comprehensively showcase the museum’s collection in Japan. Its founder, businessman Armand Hammer (1898~1990), devoted most of his life to collecting art alongside his business career. Believing that great works of art teach us that people always have the same desires, burn with the same passion, and suffer in every era, he took pleasure in exhibiting his collection worldwide and sharing the universal value of art with many people.
Assembled at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum will be some 70 works by renowned masters such as Rembrandt, Moreau, Gauguin, and Van Gogh. Through them, the exhibition will examine the discerning eye the collector brought to the timeless story of the human condition.
