Group Show of Contemporary Artists 2014 Ezotic Caravan - From the far north of Japan - poster
An exhibition of group shows selected through public invitation for “Group Show of Contemporary Artists 2014.”

Exhibition Introduction by the Group
Japan’s north underwent rapid development as a result of the nation’s “systemization.” We who were born in the subsequent era do not know the lifestyle of older times in the north. We live in happy times, spending winter warmly in well-prepared residential environments, and yet something is missing. Believing ourselves to be a generation who must create something belonging to Hokkaido, we have joined with other artists active in Japan and abroad. Through discussion and diverse art forms, including manga and humor, we want to provide opportunities to ponder and explore “Ezotic” (Ezo/Yezo—historical term for northern Japan) and offer new proposals from the north.

Group Profile
Our group, Ezotic Troupe, was formed by artists hailing from Hokkaido. As a region, Hokkaido underwent rapid development while excluded from the nation’s centralized administrative power. We have created the word “Ezotic” to express the living cultural and spiritual climate of our region. In our pursuit of art, we are asking “This element of Ezotic: in what form does it appear in our art? What relationship do we personally hold with it?”
