Exhibition Introduction by the Group
Taking a brush, we draw lines, shape characters, and weave language. As we move our hand and body, a work appears as a visible trace of our movements.
We are trying to have viewers feel the expression of the work and share the emotion and the excitement with us, not only by passively watching but also by “actively reading” the work. How can we make this happen? We think calligraphy (書:writing in Chinese character) is in need of a paradigm shift, as in “manga,” which evolved from a picture to a story.
Calligraphy that you need to move your body to enjoy, calligraphy which consists of images moving like scenery from a car window and so on. In these works, we are using many methods to explore the next step in Japanese calligraphy.

Group Profile
Our group consists of calligraphers and video artists, investigating the question how language takes form as calligraphy. To do so, we produce works using methods outside conventional calligraphy. Our works are based on the “reading” experience. By bringing video artists in, we are seeking expressive approaches unattainable by using purely analog methods only.
