100th Anniversary of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum
The History of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum

November 19 (Thu), 2026 – January 11 (Mon), 2027

An exhibition looking back at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum’s 100 years of history. Upon its 1926 opening in Ueno, the Museum did not simply become a stage for diverse exhibitions. It proactively held activities to encourage the enjoyment of art and make the museum feel open and inviting, and has since endeavored to stay a part of people’s daily lives. This exhibition will lay bare the history of Japan’s first public art museum through photos and printed materials, with a focus on archive materials.
